DC Shoes Halloween Skate Jam

Once a year, when the wind howls and seasons change, the monsters under the bed come out to play. For some unknown reason they seem to enjoy skateboarding! Beware the creepers and crawlers that hit the ramps at the DC Shoes Halloween Skate Jam!

On Saturday, 1 November 2014, the annual DC Shoes Halloween Skate Jam, in association with Old School Productions, co-sponsored by Red Bull, Nixon and Von Zipper came to life. The R15,000 in prize money and a host of other fantastic prizes up for grabs ensured that the event attracted a horde of weird and wonderfully strange looking, plank-riding animals.

Hosted in Puddy Zwennis's backyard, the Halloween Jam was attended by a small, but tight group of riders, who had dressed up for this trick or treat occasion. Although this may not have been one of the biggest gatherings around, the skill on display was larger than life. It was incredible to see some of the youngsters ripping it up with the pros, who were all trying to outdo each other with their crazy technical moves.

By the end of the evening, it was clear to see that there are some seriously talented riders coming through the ranks. With their intense energy and jaw-dropping skills, the winners proved their stature in the half pipe and took their places on the podium as follows.

1. Yann Horowitz

2. Moses Adams

3. Khule Ngubane

And to end, I send forewarning; beware the creatures that ride your streets.
They have skills!

Harley Davidson Cafe Cruze

With the beginning of November comes the fun of Moustaches, and this year Harley Davidson added a great twist by hosting the Snors for a Cause Motorcade 2014 a 60 km ride in support of men's health and the fight against cancer. Buffs were sold to raise funds and donated to-More balls than most, with purchasers also being entered into a competition to win a gorgeous, new Harley Davidson Street 750.

On the 1st November, I was invited by my good friends at Café Cruze to join in the fun. Their motto is to 'Make friends', and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting many new people, while indulging in a cup of their great coffee.

Now, I’ve never ridden on a bike before and was privileged to ride with Marius Jansen, one of the safety marshals, on his Harley. Even though I found myself both extremely nervous and excited throughout the journey, it was an awesome experience. The pure, powerful acceleration and famous purr of the bike made my heart race,
and I can now fully understand the addiction that comes with owning and riding a Harley.
The camaraderie, passion, exhilaration and pride involved in being a Harley owner are also definitely enticing.

The Snors for a Cause Motorcade 2014, which attracted around 200 big-hearted bikers, kicked off from Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, in Pretoria. From there, they cruised to the Open Window in Centurion, then south on Old Johannesburg Road past the Voortrekker Monument, through Brooklyn and under the iconic jacaranda trees, to finally finish at the new Harley Davidson dealership in Pretoria East, on  Lynnwood Road.

The trip was incredible, and the traffic officials did an excellent job at setting the pace of the group and controlling the flow of traffic. With so many riders, safety was the primary focus, but awareness through numbers and banners about the #rideforhealth was definitely achieved.

This was an amazing event, with smiles all around. However, most of the smiles (including mine) were hidden by helmets!

Spur Summer Trail Series

A year ago I was invited to film my first Spur trail series, and I loved it .
I love this series for a number of reasons!
1) I enjoy being outdoors and exploring our beautiful country.
2) While running is not my strength, this series makes it really enjoyable from beginning to end.
3) And probably the most important to me; FAMILY.
I love that this series is children friendly, and so many families come to enjoy the race together.
This makes my heart extremely happy to see people enjoying the outdoors, but also encouraging their children to join them.

The Spur slogan rings true at this series -- "A taste for life"
Man life is beautiful,and yes its filled with hard times;
stubbed toes, and sore muscles, but its all worth it.

This past sundays trail series was wet, like properly wet.
So the Hennops river gained some force as the day progressed.
Luckily the rain stopped, but the ground was muddy.
So the race was a "fun" challenge.

Ps - Thank you  http://www.bosicetea.com for the hydration.
